Here you will find my current hikes and excursion tips and discoveries for Alsace and the Vosges:
Hike on the heights of the Col de Menufosse above La Bresse
Park at the Col de Menufosse and either walk to Piquante Pierre (beautiful viewpoint with a large memorial stone) or follow the signposted hiking trails of various lengths, beautiful high-altitude trails with great views and hardly known.
Hike from La Vancelle to the chateau Frankenbourg:
Park at the end of Rue Himmelsleiter at the entrance to the forest and follow the signs for "chateau". It's 1.5 km uphill in a beautiful mixed forest to the castle ruins. The views are fantastic, a very beautiful place! On the way back, follow the blue circle, the path leads through the forest in a loop back to the parking lot (approx. 6 km, 2 hours). If you want, you can make a detour to the rocher de Coucou, another beautiful vantage point.
Not a hike from the Grande Cascade de Tendon to the Petite Cascade de Tendon
Nice short hike (approx. 5.5 km without any notable incline) from the grande Cascade de Tendon (a few kilometers behind Le Tholy, parking lot signposted) to the Petite Cascade de Tendon. Both waterfalls are well worth seeing and the path leads through the shady forest. Longer hikes are also signposted.
The quarry road (sentier des carrières) in Thannenkirch
Car park in the forest on the D42 in the direction of Haut-Koenigsbourg, directly behind the town exit. Hiking sign (description) directly on the other side of the street where the path starts. (5 km, about 2 hours, not strenuous)
The path goes continuously through the forest and past the quarry and is recommended on hot days. Small forest paths through partly pine and partly beech forests.
Hike around the Petit Ballon
Park at the parking lot just before Ferme Buchwald and walk up past Ferme Buchwald and follow the signs "yellow circle f". The path goes around the mountain, you can also climb to the top. A very beautiful, varied high-altitude trail with fantastic views. On the way you pass some Fermes, such as the Ferme Kahlenwasen, where you can eat delicious Roigabrägeldi. Walking time approx. 2 hours, 6 km, slight incline (approx. 150 m altitude)
Hike from Aubure to Roche de Tetras:
The hike starts at Col de Fréland (a forest path indicates the signposts). You can park on the street side in town. The Aubure forest is beautiful and the pines are among the tallest in France. You can picnic at Roche de Tetras and enjoy the silence of the forest. You will certainly not meet many people here and so you can "forest bath" in peace. Walking time approx. 2 hours, slight incline, 7-8 km
From Gaschney via Ferme Auberge Frankenthal to Petit Hohneck:
Wonderful, alpine Vosges hike where sure-footedness and some stamina are required. From the parking lot on the Gaschney, follow the "Frankenthal" signs on the right. It goes through beautiful forests, sometimes very stony paths with always great views of the Hohneck. In the Auberge Frankenthal you can fortify yourself or have a picnic, which is located in an idyllic valley surrounded by rocks and meadows. Continue uphill towards "Petit Hohneck". On the plateau of the Petit Hohneck, the views of the mountains of the Vosges are simply great. The way back you can either take the beautifully situated "Ferme de Schiessrothried" or the "Auberge Schallern". Hiking time 3-4 hours, 7-8 km, approx. 250 meters in altitude
Höhenweg over the Batteriekopf and Rothenbachkopf in the High Vosges:
At the D430, where it goes to Ferme Auberge Steinwasen, turn onto the gravel path and park in the small parking lot. Follow the red, white, red "Rainkopf" signs and follow the high path to the summit of the Rothenbachkopf. The views are breathtaking. You can walk back to the parking lot from the Rothenbachkopf via the Ferme Auberge Steinwasen (great farm with very tasty Roigabrägeldi and a beautiful terrace) or walk back the same way. Hiking length: only high path approx. 1.5 hours 4 km low incline / over Steinwasen 2-3 hours approx. 200 meters altitude
